Upcoming Madison Woods Paintings | Memorial Gift, Paintings as Gifts

For the rest of the year I’ll be busy doing art for family members, so any commissions requested now will begin after 2024 begins. Here’s the itinerary for upcoming Madison Woods paintings.

A Memorial Painting

My oldest son’s paternal grandmother died recently. One of her favorite things in the world was her house. She lived in south Louisiana in a house she moved into decades ago along Bayou Lafourche in Labadieville.

The House Where Gail Lived

This was one of three houses built by 3 brothers many years ago. I’m not sure who owns the other two of them now, but they’re all side by side across the street from Bayou Lafourche in Labadieville, Louisiana.

I would like to think she’ll be happy to have a Madison Woods painting, but I wish I would have thought to ask her that before she was gone from this world.

I’m making a 5 x 7″ painting of it so my son can put it wherever her ashes will be kept, or wherever he wants to keep it. I’ll make a giclee of it and frame that for his aunt.

Here’s how it turned out. While the colors aren’t an exact match, I think the Ozark pigments worked pretty good! You can see the progression page by clicking here. I show all the steps from start to finish, even the ugly stages.

Black Jaguar for the Youngest Grandchild

I have no idea yet what to do about a black jaguar, but I guess I’ll have to visit istock.com again, lol. I doubt I’ll get a chance to run over to the big cat sanctuary to see if they have one so I can get my own photo.

Hugo for Garrison

Hugo

Awww, isn’t he cute? That’s Hugo, my youngest son’s French bulldog pup. He wants a portrait of him each year, so this will be his first.

Madison Woods Paintings as Wedding Mementos

Now, this is something I haven’t written or talked about out loud yet. I’m interested in doing live wedding painting, but I’ve never done it before. So I figured I’d better paint some paintings to show how such a thing would look in my style of painting things. Of course, those too, would be done in the Ozark pigments. And then there’s my terrible track record with painting faces. However, I think I can make beautiful renderings without putting detail on faces. So this little set of paintings I’m planning to do will show any prospective clients how I might render their special day in my Ozark pigments.

Fingers crossed it looks spectacular. Honestly, I have no idea whether I can pull it off or not. But if I don’t try, I’ll never know. I just think it would be a fun thing to do. When I first started working on my paintings while at the art market in Bentonville, I was afraid I wouldn’t like painting with an audience watching. But people LOVED to see what I was doing and how I was doing it – they love to watch ANY artist at work. And I enjoyed showing them. So that surprised me, and gave me the confidence that yes, I might actually like painting at a wedding or reception, with the full intention that my doing so would also be entertainment for the guests.

My nephew has a wedding coming up but I can’t make it to the wedding so won’t be able to practice the ‘live’ part. But maybe I can try from a photo.
