Today (it is Tuesday 3/18 as I write this) when I went to check the mail, I decided to continue on down the road a little farther to Felkins creek. I usually enjoy taking detours from the routine when I can.
Specifically, I went there to see if there were any large slabs or chunks of the black shale. Someone working on a documentary asked if they could use photos from my website of shale. Unfortunately, I can’t find the full-resolution images and the web images aren’t really good enough.

Spotting the Color
So, I intended to take some fresh pics. While there wasn’t much there for the shale, I spotted some really nice color in the distance and decided to make a video reveal of that color.
Along the way, I also found a rock that looks like it could be a tree-root fossil. Or maybe it’s not. But it’s still an interesting rock. Another instance of taking detours, but I almost always do detour for rocks.
Background music
I have licenses for several background music clips I can use in my videos. But I get tired of it sometimes.
A while back I decided to start gathering sounds from nature. I’ve got some creek sounds and crow calls. I really like the crow calls, so in a different way of taking detours, I’ve started using these sounds to replace the music sometimes in the blank sections of my videos.
I’ll get more variety as time goes by, but what is your opinion on that as opposed to the music?

I’m a nature-lover, real estate agent & artist. Sometimes, I also write things. I began using local pigments to paint scenes from nature in the Ozarks in 2018.
All of my artwork is available in prints, and where originals are available, they are for sale. You can find all of that over at shop.WildOzark.com. I have a separate website for my real estate blogging and information at WildOzarkLand.com.
For pretty much everything except real estate, I go by Madison Woods, a pen name I adopted when I first began writing and then later with my art.
