My thirsty raven painting is framed finally, and it looks great! Often when I intend to use repurposed frames for new artwork, I’ll repaint or add color to make it work. But for this one, I didn’t have to change a thing about it.
Recycled/Repurposed Frames for Art
When I bring our recyclables to the center, I take a quick look to see if there’s framed artwork someone dropped off. Most of the time, the artwork is worn or torn, but the frames are good. Sometimes when I’m lucky, the frames are old ones of excellent construction that are hard to find at all these days. I picked up a couple of large frames like that from our county’s recycling center a year or so ago. I used one of them to frame my painting of a Brahman cow (Whisper), but didn’t immediately have any plans for the second frame. The only reason I got it was because a.) the price was unbeatable, and b.) I knew I’d do another large painting sooner or later. So in the meantime, I used the second large frame for my booth sign.
Today I took my booth sign out, removed the glass, and framed Detour for a Thirsty Raven. It is an odd sized frame, so I had my husband cut the board I used for the painting to fit before I started the painting.
