All of my paintings feature Ozark pigments I’ve collected by hand and processed into paints. I use titanium oxide pigment to make white for adjusting and blending oil paints made from the Ozark pigments.
When I travel, I also gather rocks from those locations. When I make paint with rocks from other locations, the scene will be one from the homeland of the pigment, and the pigment sources will be specified in my process page or product listing if they are not Ozark colors.
I’ve made a surprising discovery while doing my quick daily sketches for World Watercolor Month. These little doodles have given me some ideas I might not have thought of to make new paintings. There are two or three out of …
Life is still carrying on pretty much as usual out here at Wild Ozark. Chloe is still staying with me and I’ve finally managed to begin painting again. I’ve also been trying to catch a crow I’ve named ‘Spot’. And …

It took me some time to feel comfortable calling myself an artist. But eventually that point arrived. Then as I began to market myself as such, I found I needed to focus sometimes on “what exactly kind of artist am …
Yesterday was a day for running errands. You can come along with me to see what it’s like on a typical errand day in the life of a pigment hunting nature artist.
These 5 unique kinds of gifts will thrill the artist in your life, especially if they’re the sort who loves nature, or natural and organic things. I’m a nature lover, an artist and paint-maker myself and so I’ve compiled …
I never know what to use for a title on my random musings posts. Most of the time if I don’t have a specific topic in mind, I just start writing and then organize the jumbled mess into some sort …
I am hoping someone out there can tell me what kind of bird it is. It is not a cardinal. I saw the bird briefly but it was far up in the treetops and would not stay in one place …
So I’ve been working out the bugs on a new invention. I’m a creative sort. I guess you could say I’m a sort of ‘inventor artist’. Those of you who have followed me for a while have seen the various …
The other little orchid I’ve been watching for blooms finally began its show this morning. As I suspected, it is a tway-blade orchid (Liparis liliifolius). I’m going to add this one to my gray-scale orchid project – The Arkansas Orchid …

Today I saw a headline about the ‘New Revelations about “Girl with a Pearl Earring”, the painting by Johannes Vermeer. I’m not sure why it is surprising that the pigments of this iconic painting are earth pigments. But then I …

Lately I’ve been thinking about beginning the quest of finding a gallery. And I’ve been trying to define my USP (unique selling proposition). I’d love to have representation so I could focus more on making the art and less on …
My original artwork features pigments gathered from the Ozarks. I use nature to create paintings of nature. I keep online portfolios by year at the main Wild Ozark website.
This is the first time I’ve painted Bobwhite Quail. I’ve had some requests for quail paintings, so this is my toe-in-the-water dip into that audience. How many I’ll do depends upon the market for quail paintings.
On Sunday Rob and I went to see the galleries and exhibits at the Katara Cultural Village. I decided to make my journal entry image around one of the architectural features I found interesting, but there were so many other …
It’s been on my list to do for a while and piqued my interest even more after one of the monthly meetings I attended last year with the Artists of Northwest Arkansas. In particular it was the ones Ruth Lawlor…
